What if you are told that there is a way to promote your products and services by putting your site’s content on top of the search results? Would you grab it? We suggest that you think about it first. If the offer is too good to be true, then it’s probably a scam. This is exactly what the Spigot Toolbar promises users.

About the Spigot Toolbar

Spigot is a browser extension that is compatible with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. It installs itself even without your consent.

This toolbar promises users to promote their products, services, applications, or websites by putting their content on top of search results. But the truth is, Spigot is a completely useless toolbar.

What Can the Spigot Toolbar Do?

Spigot is actually an annoying browser hijacker that displays random pop-ups, ads, coupons, and banners. It even makes changes to your browser’s settings, redirecting you to promotional sites that only collect information about you, including your browsing history and personal information. Because of what this toolbar can do, it is highly advised to remove it right away.

But, wait. How did this toolbar get on your PC?

How Spigot Gets onto a PC

As a potentially unwanted program, the Spigot toolbar can get onto your PC without your consent. It can come bundled with free software that you have downloaded from torrent sites and software download sites like Softonic.

Most of the time, you won’t notice this browser extension getting onto your PC. It can even go undetected even with an anti-malware tool installed.

To avoid installing unnecessary programs and toolbars like Spigot, what you can do is always read the Terms and Conditions of every software you install. And then, choose the Advanced Installation option. This will give you an idea of what programs are being installed as a part of the package.
