Anti-cheat software is necessary for multiplayer games like Fortnite on Windows 10/11. However, it may lead to an error that can disrupt the gaming experience and cause annoyance to the players. The error message, “Forbidden Windows Kernel Modification Detected,” appears on the screen. Here are some workable solutions that can help fix the issue.

What is the FORBIDDEN WINDOWS KERNEL MODIFICATION DETECTED Error?

This error can be caused by a number of things, and to understand why Windows would report it, one must first understand what the Windows kernel is and the many roles that it plays on the PC.

The Windows kernel is the part of the operating system that enjoys full access to the hardware and system resources and runs code in a protected memory area. The kernel also performs the role of stopping user mode services and applications from accessing critical areas of the operating system. In situations where applications need to access these critical areas, it is the Windows kernel that performs these operations on their behalf. Thus, the forbidden Windows modification detected error is an indication of a software that is trying to overstep its mandate.

How the Kamu Easy Anti-Cheat Software Operates

The reason this error affects gamers the most is because of the nature of the Kamu Easy Anti-Cheat software and how it operates. The Kamu Easy Anti-Cheat software generally works by monitoring your PC, while playing a multiplayer game like Fortnite, and its job is to stop cheats from working in the first place. While a few people really know how the Easy Anti-Cheat software works to prevent cheats, it’s understood that these types of programs can go deep into the Windows operating system- a situation that might lead to conflicts with Windows Kernel.
A few users have also reported that incompatibility problems between Easy Anti-Cheat software and Windows 10/11 Insider Program are also a cause for the forbidden Windows kernel modification detected error.

Expert Tip: For smoother PC performance, consider using a PC optimization tool. It handles junk files, incorrect settings, and harmful apps. Make sure it's right for your system, and always check the EULA and Privacy Policy.

Fixing the Kernel Modification Detected Error on Windows 10/11

There are several ways to fix the kernel modification detected error on Windows 10/11, but before trying any one of them, it is important to first clean your computer with a PC repair tool, such as Outbyte PC Repair. This will help remove any redundancies in your system, clear old and junk files, repair damaged registry entries, make important updates, and detect and remove viruses and other forms of malware. After the PC repair tool has done its work, then you can go on and pursue some of the other solutions discussed below.

1. System Restore

If you started experiencing the error some time back, it could be that recent changes to your computer are to blame, in which case you can use System Restore to roll back on any changes that may have negatively impacted your computer. System Restore is a recovery tool for Windows that allows users to return important Windows files and settings, like drivers, installed programs, registry keys and more to previous versions in the past. To perform a system restore on Windows 10/11, take the following steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Into the search box, type “create a restore point”.
  3. Click on the first result from this search.
  4. On the box that appears titled System Properties, choose System restore.
  5. Choose from the list of restore points in your computer.
  6. Click the Next button.
  7. Click Scan for affected programs. These programs will no longer be available if you choose to continue with system restore because they were created after the restore point that you have chosen.
  8. Finish the restore process.

System Restore can also be accessed through Advanced startup. This is how to go about it:

  1. Switch on your computer.
  2. As soon as the Windows logo appears, press the Power button, this time to interrupt the boot sequence.
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 until the device boots into the recovery experience.

To access System Restore from this point, do the following:

  1. Click the Advanced options button.
  2. Click Troubleshoot.
  3. Click Advanced options.
  4. Click System Restore.
  5. Click Next and choose the point in time that you want to restore your computer to.
  6. Click Scan for affected programs.
  7. Click Next and finish the system restore process.

After you are done with the system restore process, you can now turn on your PC and check to see if the forbidden Windows kernel modification detected error has been resolved.

2. Reset your PC

Resetting your PC means performing a fresh install of Windows, while keeping all your data intact. It is a more detailed process than the system restore option and should only be pursued if the system restore fails to do away with the errors or other performance issues that your PC is experiencing. To perform a reset on your PC, take the following steps:

  1. Click the Windows menu and go to Settings.
  2. Choose Update & Security.
  3. Choose Recovery.
  4. Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap Get started.
  5. Choose to keep your files from the options.
  6. Reset your computer by following the subsequent onscreen directions.

A reset will install a fresh version of Windows that will most likely not have any of the issues that cause errors while playing games.

3. Scan your system for viruses

This might sound cliché, but viruses sure do cause all sorts of problems on a computer and you never know what you are up against. To make sure that viruses and other forms of malware are not responsible for the errors that you are experiencing, scan your system with the help of an anti-virus software and delete all the programs and files that are highlighted.

4. Unenroll from the Windows Insider Program

As noted earlier, some users encounter the forbidden Windows kernel modification detected error after installing the Windows Insider Program. This is because the program has some compatibility issues with Kamu Easy Anti-Cheat. Thus, removing the Windows Insider program is a viable solution in solving the error. To remove the program, take the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows menu.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Go to Windows Insider Program.
  4. Choose Stop.
  5. Follow the additional onscreen prompts.

Hopefully, the above-offered solutions will help solve the problem you are experiencing with your PC and improve your gaming experience in the process.
