Microsoft may have done everything in its power to make Windows 10 a stable operating system. However, just like all other operating systems, it still has flaws. With every update that Microsoft releases, new Windows 10 update issues arise.

Just recently, Microsoft issued a new Windows 10 update warning. The tech company confirmed that it had found that the Control Flow Guard security feature of the latest Windows 10 update can trigger massive performance issues.

For that reason, we have compiled a few handy fixes for future Windows update issues and resolutions to Windows 10 update warnings. We’ve listed them below:

1. Use the Windows 10 Update Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 devices have this built-in utility that you can use in the event that update errors surface. It’s called Windows 10 Update Troubleshooter. To use it, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Control Panel and select Troubleshooting.
  2. Choose Fix Problems with Windows Update.
  3. Reboot your computer.
  4. Reinstall the update.

2. Recreate the Windows Update Store Folder.

If the Windows 10 Update Troubleshooter does not work, then try recreating the Windows Update Store folder. This is the folder that stores the Windows updates you downloaded.

Here is how you recreate the Windows Update Store folder:

  1. Press the Windows and R keys simultaneously. This will open the Run command box.
  2. Into the text field, input services.msc.
  3. Hit Enter.
  4. Locate Windows Update from the list and right-click on it.
  5. Choose Stop.
  6. Open Windows Explorer.
  7. Navigate to the C:\Windows folder.
  8. Click on the Software Distribution folder and hit Don’t worry about losing the Software Distribution Folder. The next time you run Windows Update, it will be created automatically.
  9. Press Continue.
  10. Restart your computer.

3. Install the Windows 10 Update Manually.

If an error occurred while updating Windows 10, you may try installing the update manually. Here’s how:

  1. Open your favorite web browser.
  2. Go to the official Windows 10 download site.
  3. Click Update Now.
  4. You will then be prompted to confirm your action.
  5. Next, begin the installation process by clicking Run.
  6. Hit Update Now and follow the on-screen prompts.
  7. Wait for the installation process to be completed.
  8. Restart your computer.

4. Run the Windows 10 Update in Selective Startup Mode.

Running the update in Selective Startup mode can often resolve Windows 10 update issues. To do so, follow the instructions below:

  1. Press the Windows + R This will launch the Run command box.
  2. Into the text field, input msconfig.
  3. Hit Enter.
  4. The System Configuration utility should now open.
  5. Navigate to the Services tab.
  6. Tick the box beside the Hide All Microsoft Services option.
  7. Click the Disable All button.
  8. Go to the Startup tab.
  9. Click Open Task Manager.
  10. Choose all startup items one at a time.
  11. Hit Disable.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Restart your computer.
  14. Reinstall the update.
  15. If you’re able to install the update without any problems, repeat steps 1 to 4.
  16. Go to the General tab.
  17. Check the Normal Startup option.
  18. Hit OK.
  19. Restart your computer again.

5. Use the SFC and DISM Tools.

To fix some Windows update errors, some users use the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tools. Here’s how:

  1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator. To do that, input cmd into the search field and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click on the first option in the results.
  3. Choose Run as Administrator.
  4. On the command line, input the Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth command.
  5. Hit Enter.
  6. Wait while the DISM tool repairs the broken components. When the operation is completed, you will be notified. After that, input this command: SFC /SCANNOW.
  7. Hit Enter.
  8. Once the SFC scan is complete, reboot your computer.
  9. Reinstall the update.

6. Check Your Hard Disk for Errors.

Sometimes, errors on your hard disk can trigger Windows 10 update errors. To fix them, use the chkdsk command and attempt to install the update again.

Here’s a detailed guide on how to do it:

  1. Into the search bar, input cmd.
  2. Hit Enter.
  3. Right-click on the first item in the search results.
  4. Select Run as Administrator.
  5. On the command line, input the chkdsk /F command.
  6. Reboot your computer.

7. Perform a Clean Windows 10 Installation.

Computers that use an old CPU or chipset may require a clean Windows 10 installation to get away with update problems. To perform a clean Windows 10 installation, follow these steps:

  1. Know what Windows 10 version your computer is currently running.
  2. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
  3. Double-click on it to run it.
  4. Select your current Windows 10 version.
  5. Select a storage device.
  6. Start the download.
  7. Once the download is complete, click Install Now.
  8. Select the Custom: Install Windows Only (Advanced) option.
  9. Choose the hard drive partition you wish to install Windows 10 on.
  10. When the installation is almost complete, provide your Windows product key.
  11. Restart your computer.

8. Run a Quick System Scan.

Oftentimes, junk and unnecessary files mess up with your system, causing problems and errors to occur. To get rid of such files, you can download and install a reliable PC repair tool for your Windows 10 device.

But of course, you can also perform the deletion the manual way. Just take note that it will be time-consuming, especially if you have plenty of files stored on your computer.

On a Final Note

That’s it! The methods above should help fix Microsoft’s recent Windows 10 update warning. If you still have problems even after trying all eight methods, we suggest that you take your computer to a Windows technician. Let them check your computer as there might be an underlying hardware problem that needs to be fixed.
