An SSL certificate is given by authorized bodies to authenticate and validate the identity of a certain website. It is responsible for encrypting all the communication between the web server and the user’s browser. Without SSL encryption, everything that a user does on a webpage will be out in the open and can be manipulated by third-party sites.

If a website has an SSL certificate, all the information revealed and communication done on a website are encrypted. They can only be decrypted by the website itself.
