Technology is often associated with entertainment, although it was created to make our lives easier and is heavily utilized in fields outside of entertainment. Tech is being utilized in a variety of industries— if not every single industry. However, technology is still widely used for entertainment purposes and is evolving every day to make our experiences better.
Technology has also made it easier for us to keep track of our health, as well as contributed to advances in medicine. With that being said, here are four technological devices that everyone needs, plus essentials for these devices.
#1: Computer
Although the majority of people have switched from desktop computers to laptops, either one is an essential technological device for you to have in today’s digital world. This proved especially true during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic when many people were forced to work from home. People invested in better quality computers and laptops in order to be able to work from home.
One essential item that you need for your laptop or desktop computer is a monitor. Of course, desktop computers already have monitors so this may be more of an essential item if you have a laptop. These monitors are like smaller TVs, and they’re essential for gamers and video creators. High-resolution monitors in particular allow for clearer and larger pictures that may not be seen as clearly on a laptop.
#2: Smart TV
Television has come a long way since it was first invented, and the majority of people have smart TVs in their homes. Smart TVs allow you to stream your favorite shows and movies over the internet through platforms such as Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and Disney Plus. Because of this, many people have cut ties with their cable companies in favor of streaming.
You may wonder what additional item you’ll need to go with your smart TV since these TVs can do just about anything. However, depending on what you use your smart TV for, you may need a media hub to house all of your digital media. The most popular media hub is probably Kodi, where you can access all of your movies, TV shows, music, and music videos all in one convenient place. Kodi can be installed on a Fire TV.
#3: Smartphone
The first cell phone available to the public came out in the early 1980s, and it was essentially a cordless landline/house phone— all you could do was make and receive calls. 20 years later, texting became widely available on cell phones, and now 20 more years into the future, we’re able to do just about anything on our phones.
So what additional items do you need to go with your smartphone? Because we can do a lot of things with our smartphones, there are several additional items that we may need to go with them. Of course, our phones need chargers (portable and plugs), screen protectors, and cases to keep them functioning and in good condition, but here are some other items that may make our phones even more convenient:
- Bluetooth earbuds
- Car mount
- Selfie sticks
- Smart speakers
#4: Smartwatch
As smartphones do more than just allow us to talk to people, smartwatches allow us to do more than just tell time. A lot of smartwatches are also fitness trackers, allowing you to keep track of your heart rate, how many calories you’ve burned, and other vital signs. Smartwatches also have apps on them, so you can listen to music, check the weather, and even use mobile payment apps when shopping.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t always have to have a smartphone (although most people do) to have a smartwatch.
However, if your smartwatch and smartphone are both from Apple, you can pair them together and with other Apple devices. And many of the items you use with a smartphone can also use with your smartwatch, such as your earbuds.
It’s important to note that technology isn’t cheap, so you may not be able to get all of these extra items for your main devices at first. Fortunately, technology is so advanced that you may not necessarily need all four of these devices to enjoy the entertainment that you desire.
Smartphones allow you to do virtually everything a computer/laptop, smart TV, and smartwatch will allow you to do, but it is still helpful and convenient to have a laptop for work and a smart TV to fully enjoy TV shows and movies.
