The release of Pixel Android 9 Pie may have marked another milestone for Google, but it seems to be plagued with a number of problems. Although some of these issues are just minor bugs, others are way too complicated.
Now, before the Android Pie update arrives for your Android device, you have to be familiar with the common Android 9 Pie issues. That way, you won’t be caught off guard. Then again, if you have already upgraded to the recent Android 9 Pie OS, you have to keep an eye out for any problems and report whatever issue you come across with to Google so they can improve the OS in the future.
Below, we’ll walk you through the current and most common Android 9 Pie problems and provide possible fixes to them.
Common Android 9 Pie Issues and Fixes
While Google is working to improve Android 9 Pie, you can’t expect things to work out fine all the time. Some Android 9 Pie users have already reported issues on their devices. We listed some of their problems and gave solutions to fix them. Check them out:
1. Connectivity Issues
One of the most popular and common issues that Google Pixel users have reported is connectivity. Bluetooth and network connectivity problems sometimes require special diagnosis from the manufacturer itself. For them to be fixed, software updates are often released. But you need not wait for these updates. You can fix connectivity issues by following the steps below:
How to Fix Connectivity Problems in Android 9 Pie
- Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> WiFi. Select the wireless network you are having problems with. Tap the Forget button and try to add the wireless network again. Check if the problem is solved.
- If the first solution does not work, the problem might be with your wireless router. To fix it, unplug your router and re-plug it after 10 seconds.
- For Bluetooth problems, you may try to unpair an already paired Android 9 Pie device and pair it again. You can do this by going to Settings -> Bluetooth -> Connected Devices. From there, remove the paired device. Pair the device again and see if it is working fine.
2. Battery Drain Problem
Android 9 Pie has this special feature called Adaptive Battery. With the help of artificial intelligence, this feature gives Android devices the best battery life possible by putting unimportant apps to sleep and such.
Though it’s a breakthrough feature for Google Pixel and other Android devices, Google is getting early complaints about battery life. Well, that is expected and you need not worry. Poor battery life is often caused by apps that aren’t working right with Android 9 Pie.
To fix battery drain issues in Android 9 Pie, we suggest customizing location settings, closing battery-consuming apps you do not need, and reducing your screen’s brightness to at least 40%.
Another way to fix battery drain problems in Android 9 Pie is to make changes in your device’s settings and ensure that an app is not draining your battery juice. To do that, go to Settings -> Battery. Check what apps are on top of the list. In most cases, Android OS and Android System is at the top, but if you see an unusual app at the top, then something isn’t right.
Your next step should then be to uninstall or disable the app. Simply tap on the name of the app and press Force Close to close it.
Finally, we suggest you install a tool like android cleaning app. This tool stops apps that are draining your battery, giving your battery the boost it needs. Just so you know, it also has an effective battery cleaner you can take advantage of.
3. Gesture Control Problems
Since Android 9 Pie was released, a lot of users complain about the new gesture control feature. For that reason, Google disabled it and made it an optional feature you can enable.
If you wish to enable gesture control, here’s what you should do:
- Go to Settings -> System.
- Select
- Scroll down until you find the row that is labeled Swipe up on Home button.
- Toggle the switch to off and wait.
- After a minute, switch it
4. Blank Camera Issue
Many reported that the Pixel XL camera on Android 9 Pie does not work. Whenever you launch the Camera app, it’ll show a blank or black screen. It is said that Google made improvements to the camera. As a result, we are experiencing problems. There is a solution, though.
Navigate to Settings -> Apps. Find the Camera app. Tap on it and press the Clear Cache button. Doing so should fix the problem. Now, try to use the Camera app again. If the problem is still there, clear the Camera app data as well and reboot your phone.
5. Charging Problems
Multiple Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users reportedly lost the Fast Charging ability after the public release of Android 9 Pie. Since Google is already aware of the problem, the only solution to get rid of charging problems in Android 9 Pie is to wait for the next software update. Hopefully, it should resolve the charging issues for good.
6. Other Issues
Aside from the five major Android 9 Pie problems that have been reported by users in the Pixel User Community, there are other issues that are yet to be addressed. These include:
- Battery is draining even when the device is not used.
- Google Assistant voice match settings are faulty and out of control.
- Volume problems randomly arise.
- The new Adaptive Brightness feature is not performing efficiently.
- The Notch settings under Developer options are no longer there.
In Conclusion
Again, these are just some of the most common issues with Android 9 Pie. At the moment, Google is continually working to get rid of these bugs with monthly updates for Pixel devices. In case you have run into problems with Android 9 Pie, expect them to be fixed in the next release.
Hi Vicrey,
I have a little concern with my Android 9 phone. I can’t access the ‘Security & Location’ tab.
Each time I try to access it, it does not open; I’m simply back to the main menu…
I thought that this issue would be resolved with the latest update (few hours ago), but nope…
Thank you in advance for any kind of help.
