Trojan Horse
Reading time: 5 Minutes

Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen is a Trojan horse malware that gives hackers backdoor access to a victim’s computer. It is usually distributed through infected torrents, fake downloads, contaminated attachments, or infected ads.

The main goal of the Trojan is to collect data on a victim’s computer and pass it to cybercriminals, who then use it for financial and identity fraud. Trojans also work as malware loaders and are used to infect computers with ransomware and other data stealing viruses.

What Can Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen Do?

Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen is a dangerous malware for a couple of reasons. First, it will hijack your browser and start serving annoying ads based on your browsing history. These ads can sometimes be inappropriate in nature, including content that may promote harmful or adult themes.
There is also the risk that some of the ads are contaminated with malware.

And talking of malware, the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen is a known malware loader that gives cyber-criminals the ability to remotely download and install malware, such as ransomware, on your computer. They are able to do this because the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen allows them to profile a victim based on their financial status. If they see a lot of financial activities coming from the victim, they then deem him a worthy target for a nasty ransomware attack.

Other than these nefarious acts, Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen also damages a computer by messing with registry entries, slowing it down, and making it unresponsive.

Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen Distribution

You might be asking yourself, ‘how did Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen get into my computer’? Well, the malware is distributed via email attachments, fake downloads, contaminated ads, and infected websites. When you interact with any of these vectors, there are high chances that the malware will find its way into your computer, where it will wreak havoc until it is removed.

How to Remove the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen Malware Entity

The quickest and most efficient way of removing the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen malware is by deploying a reliable anti-malware tool, such as trusted and well-reviewed solutions available on the market (for example, Outbyte Anti-Malware).

These types of anti-malware tools can scan your computer for any foreign programs and neutralize them, by scanning various parts of your system such as browser extensions, task scheduler, and the registry.

Yet another reason that makes an anti-malware the perfect solution to the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen infection is that you are never really sure about the source of the infection. Thus, the only way to prevent secondary infections is to take preventative measures, the most important of which is having a powerful anti-malware tool around.

For the anti-malware to be as effective as possible, you need to run your computer on Safe Mode with Networking. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that will starts your PC in a basic state. Here is how to get boot your PC into Safe Mode:

  1. Click the Windows button to shut down your computer. While at it, hold the Shift key and select Restart.
  2. Press the power button to power your device.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the Choose an Option screen appears. Go to Advanced Options and select Start-up Settings.
  4. Under Start-up Settings, click Restart.
  5. When your computer restarts, you will see various boot options. Use the F5 key to select Safe Mode with Networking.

Now that you are in Safe Mode with Networking, download the anti-malware tool and scan your device.

While the anti-malware tool will do most of the heavy lifting, you also need the help of a PC repair tool to clear your computer of any junk files, browser history, and to repair broken or corrupt registry entries. The PC repair tool will also make it easier to remove problematic apps.

Removing Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen Manually

Although not the best option, you can manually remove the Trojan.Multi.Brosubsc.gen with the help of the Control Panel. Here is how:

If you are not sure which program you need to remove, go to the Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys. Once in the Task Manager, navigate to the Processes tab and look for any suspicious processes. Right-click to end them and find the location of the files and folders that are powering the processes. From here, you can delete these files and folders by dragging them to the Recycle Bin.

Windows Recovery Options

No matter what you do, whether it is using an anti-malware tool, or removing the offending malware manually, you need to at least use one of the many recovery options that are available to Windows users.

System Restore

The System Restore option will undo any changes to your computer that resulted from a malware infection or after you installed a problematic app. Note that System Restore will only work if you already have a restore point on your computer to begin with. To get to the System Restore option, take the following steps:

  1. Into the Windows search box, type ‘create a restore point’.
  2. Select the first search result as this will take you to the System Properties app.
  3. On the System Properties app, navigate to System Protection tab. Hit System Restore.
  4. Choose a restore point from the list of restore points on your computer.
  5. Click the Scan for affected programs button to see the programs that will no longer be available once system restore is activated. Make sure that the program that you want removed makes it to the list.
  6. Click the Close button.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. Click the Finish button.

Refresh Windows OS

If the System Restore option is not available to you, then you should refresh your Windows OS with the option of keeping your files. The following are the steps to take:

  1. Go to Settings > Change PC settings.
  2. Click Update and recovery.
  3. Under Refresh Your PC without affecting your files, click Get started.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

A more drastic step would be to reset your device, but that will not be necessary, especially if you have already refreshed it or used one of your restore points.
